DALTON VILLAGE COUNCIL VACANCY

Due to a recent resignation, the Village of Dalton currently has an opening on Village Council.   This is a term that will be expiring December 31, 2025. Anyone interested in being considered to fill the open seat must drop off a letter of interest to Dalton Village Hall, 1 West Main Street, Dalton, Ohio 44618. You may also email your letter of interest to townhall@daltonohio.gov.  

All letters of interest must be received by 4 PM on Friday, May 2, 2025 to be considered. 


The Village of Dalton is Accepting Applications for 

POLICE CHIEF 

The successful applicant will oversee and supervise the activities of the department. Applicants must be a proven leader, able to work well independently, possess an expert knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and policies, and possess strong verbal and written communication skills. The position is full-time, the rate of pay will be based upon experience and the vision that the candidate has for the department.
The responsibilities of the police chief are as follows: Conduct the planning and assignments of programs/police activities; recruiting and retaining appropriate staffing levels; preparing and maintaining records and reports; managing subordinates and investigations; developing and enforcing policies and regulations; planning budgets for police department; create a safe and professional work environment..
Requirements to apply: extensive experience working in a police department with previous supervisory experience preferred; expert knowledge of police methods and practices; excellent knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations; outstanding public speaking ability; analytical thinking ability.
Applicants must be OPOTA certified and up to date on their certification in order to be considered for this position. Applicants must have a good driving record with a valid driver's license and no felony convictions and be of good moral character. PUBLIC RECORDS CLERK 

The Village of Dalton is accepting applications for a PUBLIC RECORDS CLERK. 
This is a part time position with funding that has been authorized for up to 20 weeks.
The job will include locating and organizing public records as well as assisting to prepare items for public records requests. Some items may contain confidential personal information that may need to be reviewed by Village legal council for redaction. The applicant must know and understand the importance of public records and be able to follow the Sunshine Laws. A three hour training in the Sunshine Laws is available online.
The successful candidate must be a well organized team player and display outstanding communications skills.

ALL MEETINGS ARE HELD AT VILLAGE HALL UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED
In the event larger crowds show up, meetings may be moved to the Street Department on Freet Street.

Board of Public Affairs -Meets the 3rd Tuesday of the month @ 5:30pm in the lower level of Village Hall.

Finance Committee -Meets the 3rd Tuesday of the month @ 6:00pm in the upper level of Village Hall.

Monthly Council Meetings -Meets the 3rd Tuesday of the month @ 7:00pm
